Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot launched the Indira Gandhi Free Smartphone Scheme under the Free Mobile Scheme 2024. The scheme was launched on August 10, 2023, with the aim of improving digital skills and providing security to girls, especially those who travel far for education.

Along with the phone, they will also get free internet for three years. The government will set up camps at various times to distribute these phones. More than 1.30 crore women and girls will benefit from this scheme. The phones, along with SIM cards and data access, will be provided by both private and government telecom companies.

The eligibility criteria to get free mobile phone under Rajasthan Free Mobile Yojana 2024 are as follows:

• The applicant must be a woman from Rajasthan.
• The applicant must be the head of the family.
• Girls studying in class 9 to 12 in government schools can apply.
• Girls studying in government higher education institutes like college, ITI or polytechnic are also eligible.
• Widows or single women receiving pension can apply.
• Female heads of the family who have worked for 50 days under Indira Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme are eligible.
• Similarly, female heads who have worked for 100 days under Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme are also eligible.

Benefits of the Free Mobile Yojana 2024

The benefits and features of Indira Gandhi Free Mobile Scheme 2024 are as follows:

1. Benefits for women and girl students: This scheme will benefit women and girl students in Rajasthan.

What phone will be provided under the Free Mobile Scheme 2024?

Under the Free Mobile Scheme 2024, women get ₹6800, which is transferred to their e-wallet app via DBT (Direct Benefit Transfer). Out of this amount, ₹6125 is allocated for purchasing a phone and ₹675 for internet data for the remaining nine months of the year. Women have the freedom to choose any smartphone brand, including options such as Realme and Redmi.

If they are dissatisfied with the phone given, they can add additional funds to the ₹6125 DBT amount to buy another phone of their choice. To get free smartphones, women have to get e-KYC done during camps organised by the Rajasthan government. They will then have to download and install the e-wallet app on their phones, where ₹6800 will be transferred via DBT. They can then choose a phone, SIM and internet data plan from their preferred company.

Step 1 : Free Mobile Scheme 2024

In the first Step of Free Mobile Scheme 2024, 40 lakh women from Chiranjivi families of the state got smartphones. This special scheme included top students of government schools from class 9th to 12th, widows or single women receiving pension, women who worked 100 days under MNREGA and female heads of families who worked 50 days under the Urban Employment Guarantee Scheme. All these beneficiaries got smartphones for free.

Step 2 : Free Mobile Scheme 2024

In the second phase of Indira Gandhi Free Mobile Yojana, the remaining 9.5 million women out of 13.5 million women will get free mobile phones. These women can go to their nearest inflation relief camp to register for the government guarantee card. In the Free Mobile Yojana 2024 camp, they have to bring their Jan Aadhar card, Aadhar card, PAN card (if any), phone number linked to Jan Aadhar card and passport size photo.

Widows or single women receiving pension will also have to bring their PPO number and students their ID card. This will ensure that all eligible women can avail the benefits of this scheme and stay connected through their free smartphone.
